Band of Brothers by Stephen E. Ambrose is the book which gave rise to the HBO series. It is about E Company of the 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne . The book starts in basic training Camp Toccoa and goes through occupation duty in Austria . I had picked this book up many years ago before the HBO series, but didn’t finish it. I watched a few episodes of the HBO series, but could never really get into it. I did, however, decide to finish the book and I’m glad I did. This book is a company specific World War II book rather than a generic overview of the war. Read it with that in mind.
