Grant by John Mosier is the second book in the Great Generals Series biographies edited by General Wesley K. Clark. Mosier contends that Ulysses S. Grant was a military genius though Grant never intended to make the military a career. He attended West Point with the sole purpose of getting a free education to help him in civilian life. It is interesting to note how many "Northern" Generals”, during the Civil War, were put in their positions through political connections rather than through their accomplishments, Grant being an exception. Mosier favorably compares Grant to several of the great European military leaders including Napoleon and Wellington and describes his genius as a great strategist as well as a great tactician. Grant had an uncanny ability to scope out the terrain of a battlefield and adjust accordingly, never losing a battle. The book is an interesting read portraying Grant the man as well as the military legend.

I wish some of you would tell me the brand of whiskey that Grant drinks. I would like to send a barrel of it to my other generals.
