The Borghese Museum was a great museum in the largest park in Rome. The park is so large that you could easily get lost. I bet it is more than a mile across. It has lots of trails throughout that would be perfect for jogging; however, there are not a lot of folks that jog in Rome.
The museum is famous for its statutes. They were amazing. My favorites were the Bernini’s. They have the famous Apollo & Daphne and an amazing David. The detail in Bernini works rivals that of Michelangelo in my opinion. There are also additional wonderful works throughout the building. Each room in this gallery is great just by itself. Make sure you check out the ceilings if you go. The galleries in Rome just do not miss any details. On the top floor there are paintings multiple rooms of paintings. The Borghese has some wonderful works including Raphael’s Deposition and a Rubens. Almost all of the paintings contained some kind of religious symbolism.
One piece of advice is you must have tickets before you go. You can order them online. Also, it was a bit confusing because when you prepurchase you actually only get a receipt. You then have to go in a little side door under the stairs to pick up your ticket. After you get your ticket you go upstairs to get into the museum. The thing I like about this museum is that they don’t oversale the tickets so you are not crowded out of looking at the art. That is highly unusual in Italy. This is a don’t miss museum when in Rome if you are an art lover, especially sculpture.
