What can I say about Cinque Terre? It is amazing, beautiful, peaceful, a can’t miss if you are on the West coast of Italy. “Cinque Terre” means five villages. It is a wonderful hiking location. There is a trail that goes between all five villages. In places it is a footpath, but the main trail is pretty well traveled. There are tons of other trails that go all other directions, but more on some of those later. There is also a train that stops between each of the villages or you can take a ferry. The ferry stops everywhere but one of the villages.
Cinque Terre is about 45 minutes or so by train from Pisa. When we went there we were coming from Florence and made a stop at Pisa to see the Leaning Tower. We got to Cinque Terre relatively early in the afternoon and were able to do a little exploring.
The five villages are Riomaggiore, Manrola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterosso. Our hotel was in Riomaggiore which is the furthest village south.
